Terms & refunds
Wakaru Studios · last updated 30 August 2026
Plain-language terms for using Wakaru. By installing the extension or creating an account you agree to them.
The service and the seller
Wakaru is a Chrome extension that adds Japanese learning features to Crunchyroll: dual subtitles, word linking, dictionary lookups, pronunciation, and flashcards. It is sold by Wakaru Studios ("we"), reachable at [email protected]. Wakaru Studios — not Google, and not Crunchyroll — is the seller.
What Wakaru is not
- It is not affiliated with Crunchyroll and does not include Crunchyroll access. You need your own Crunchyroll account; free ad-supported episodes work.
- It does not provide, host, or redistribute video. It reads subtitle text your own session is entitled to and never touches video streams or DRM.
- Community subtitle files are provided by third parties (jimaku.cc); we don't host them and can't guarantee one exists for every show.
Free trial
Every account gets a 7-day free trial, starting at first sign-in. No payment details are needed to start it, and nothing is charged when it ends — the paid features simply stop until you subscribe. One trial per person.
Subscriptions and billing
- Plans: $6.99 per month, $35.99 per 6 months, or $59.99 per year (US dollars; tax or VAT added where required). All plans include every feature.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
- Cancel anytime from your account page or by email. Cancelling stops the renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a price ever changes, you'll be told before your next renewal, with time to cancel.
Refunds
- 14-day money-back guarantee: within 14 days of your first purchase, email [email protected] for a full refund — no reason needed.
- Consumers in the EU and UK additionally keep their statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.
- Renewals aren't automatically refundable, but if a renewal charged you when you meant to cancel, write to us within 14 days of the charge and we'll sort it out reasonably.
Your data
Your saved words are yours. Export to CSV or Anki works regardless of subscription status, and a lapsed subscription never locks you out of your word list. How data is handled is covered by the privacy policy.
Fair use
A subscription is for one person's personal use. Don't share account tokens, resell access, or hammer the AI endpoints outside normal viewing — we meter usage per account and may throttle or suspend accounts that abuse it (with a warning first, unless it's egregious).
Service changes and availability
Wakaru depends on third parties we don't control — Crunchyroll's player, community subtitle archives, dictionary and AI providers. We work to keep everything running, but features may occasionally degrade or change when those services do. If Wakaru ever shuts down for good, active subscriptions are refunded pro rata.
Liability
Wakaru is provided as-is, as a study aid. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer elsewhere, this doesn't take away protections your local law grants you that can't be waived by contract.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, we'll tell you in the extension or by email before the change applies to you. Continuing to use Wakaru after that means you accept the new terms.
